Event Description

235 years later, we should reflect on the modesty of the Father of our Nation.

George Washington, Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army, resigned his commission and became a regular citizen. This act took place in the Maryland State House on December 23, 1783 in our sister city of Baltimore.

( And who could forget his thoughts of Sept 17, 1796 )

His modesty is well documented

The Washington Monument in Baltimore has this image of Washington at its apex.

Here in Philly, our monument to Washington resides in Eakins Oval on the Ben Franklin Parkway and was dedicated in May 1897, 120 years ago.

( I missed putting this on our event calendar in May, but I am correcting this oversight now. The Baltimore Monument is just as impressive as ours.)
