I went to the event and it was very interesting.  A couple of good points that make people happy:  giving people credit on the work  it reminded me of when Apply had the designers sign their computer; no metric is perfect and you may need a combination with goals for what would make one happy; celebrating success, and the rewards system based on team feedback.  Thanks to @leanLeff for the link to the site where a team of 8 people can do the awards thing for free.
