Event Description

And right on the heels of

Talk Like A Pirate Day on September 19

we have a special day in Chester County

a mere   240 years ago

the famous Highwayman of Chester County -

  James Fitzpatrick

also known as Sandy Flash

who was a lovable scoundrel that "Despite his crimes, Fitzpatrick was reputed to have a gallant side—like Robin Hood, he is reputed to have given gifts to the poor—particularly poor women on a few occasions, and he was never known to steal from the poor or to mistreat a woman. "

 - Sadly it was on Sept 26th 1778, 240 years ago - in Delaware County that James Fitzpatrick was finally captured at Square Tavern and, after a number of escape attempts from prison, he was hanged on September 26, 1778
