Event Description

A supposed Shoe-pounding incident is highly debated if it ever occurred.

The head of the U.S.S.R. was accused of pounding his shoe on a desk to make himself louder.  It likely did not happen.

October 12, 1960

Nikita Khrushchev earlier removed his tight loafers and one was on the desk.  He began pounding the desk with his fist which broke his watch band making him angrier.  However, he may have brandished the show during the exchange, but it is unlikely that he ever pounded it like a gavel.

However, the moderator did break his gavel when closing the debates for the day.

This happened THREE WEEKS before the Nixon-Kennedy Election and was seen to help Nixon in the long run.
