Event Description

The city fathers promoted a parade in Philadelphia planned for Sept 28, 1918   It was discouraged by the Board of Health, and in the aftermath of the 200,000 Philadelphians participating, 20,000 died of Spanish Flu.

This event became part of the Mutter's Museum multi-year presentation "Spit Causes Death" displays ( now till Fall of 2024 )

Now at the Brandywine River Museum on Sunday - and soon to many venues in the state - is a Replica Justice Bell made of wood so it can be dis-assembled and taken to schools throughout the state.  The real bell now housed in the Valley Forge Chapel - was a symbol for Women's Suffrage and Voting Rights.

Director Amanda Owens is very knowledgeable about the original.
