Complexity, Diversity and Harmony: A Musical Perspective of Project Management
by Raji Sivaraman
Abstract
This presentation explores Project Management in music, and through a musical perspective.
Exploring practice in different cultural and industrial contexts, consideration is given both to ways in which musical activity reflects distinctive approaches to Project, Program and Portfolio Management and to the often unique and complex project dynamics involved in musical creation.
Viewing music as a form of cultural project of considerable social importance as well as commercial significance, music is also a deeply personal project often connecting at an intense emotional level.
Quite simply, music is a business, a cultural process, and a profoundly individual experience, and at all levels activities involved reflect distinctive approaches to, and interesting ways of thinking about project activity.
You will take away the following:
● Alternative perspectives of the management of risk
● Practical insights into Team dynamics
● An understanding of cultures of knowledge-transfer and sharing as a key part of leadership skills
● Practical ideas for the development of creativity in projects with a managerial outlook
● Useful and productive methods for thinking about projects in musical ways
The session is designed to be accessible and informative for all levels of knowledge and experience, novel, intermediate, advanced or mixed. The educational and pedagogic focus will be presented so as to be accessible to non-expert audiences.
