aeny gave an Ignite Talk at the Code California launch event where he
talked about the future government workforce and the skill sets needed
to provide better solutions to the state’s most vexing problems.\r\
n In his current role as Director of the Office of Innovation, he lead
s a team that works to cultivate open communication, continuous learni
ng, precise problem definition and experimentation to generate innovat
ive ways to deliver health care services and information to the citize
n of California.\r\n On February 22 in an online discussion, Chaeny wi
ll be available for a more in-depth discussion about the value of open
government, where he will answer questions from a live audience.\r\n
Background:\r\nAt the launch On December 12, 2018, the Code California
Playbook was released to provide guidance on creating a collaborative
, open source community within California state government. Learn more
about Code California Playbook, platform and related policies at go.c
ode.ca.gov.\r\n In May 2018, the California Department of Technology i
ssued a policy encouraging the use of non-proprietary software in gove
rnment IT projects. Technology Letter 18-02 outlined the use of custom
-developed source code and its reuse through a public code repository
that will give agencies more opportunities to work together and elimin
ate duplication.\r\nCalifornia is working to foster an atmosphere of c
ollaboration that will make it easier to procure, manage, and secure o
pen source efforts along with expanding software peer review, perform
security testing, reuse existing solutions and share knowledge.\r\n Au
dience:\r\nThis event is open and free of charge for anyone who wants
to join online. We expect to see state and local public employees, exe
cutives, civic technologists and technology vendors in attendance.\r\n
