SUMMARY:Seven Deadly Sins of Debt IS POSTPONED
DESCRIPTION:P O S T P O N E D \r\n \r\nTHE SEVEN DEADLY SINS\r\n( of
Debt )\r\n  by Brian McElaney of the Think Company\r\n \r\nSoftware
projects accumulate many kinds of debt. Each debt comes in the form of
small qualitative shortcomings which we ( knowingly or unknowingly )
choose to ignore in the name of shipping.\r\nThey cause friction - and
over time, they can combine to easily grind momentum to a halt if lef
t unchecked.\r\nWhile these kinds of debt can in fact be useful ( if n
ot necessary ) to creating software, teams need to understand the natu
re of their shortcomings to prevent \"velocity bankruptcy\"\r\nIn this
talk, we'll discuss the nature of process debt by using classical ide
as related to \"Unproductive behavior\" as a guide: hitting on shortco
mings in culture, empathy, discipline, morale, organization, preparedn
ess, and requirements.\r\nWe'll discuss examples, tips on identifying
the risks in your own projects, and how to decide when to avoid, mitig
ate - or accept and track these risks.\r\n\r\nOur Speaker\r\nBrian McE
laney (or just Mac) has led engineering teams building everything from
medical device monitoring systems to foreign exchange trading platfor
ms. He currectly runs the technology team at Think Company - a user ex
perience design firm in Philly focused on enterprise softwrea, process
, and service design. When he's not coding, Mac cooks competitively, d
rinks wine professionally as a Level 3 Comm, pretends to like parades,
and feels that brunch should be protected by law.\r\n\r\nTHIS IS A GR
EAT TALK.  YOU WILL LOVE IT.\r\n  - John Voris\r\n\r\n( This was fir
st presented downtown on Tuesday Dec 3 at THINK COMPANY for the Ruby P
HL group. \r\n  Great quotes were:\r\nIf you make a wrong decision,
make it easy to reverse\r\nTackle biggest risks first.  Defer Hard-To
-Change decisions.\r\nOur job is to FAIL interestingly.\r\nDon't move
faster than the speed of Good Ideas.\r\nDefinition of Anti-Pattern: In
Hindsight, It was Bad.\r\nBurnout IS experience.\r\n\r\nDirections to
