Event Description

MARCH MEETING

AgilePhilly will be meeting Tuesday March 19th which is between ST PATRICKS DAY ( when Saint Patrick drove the snakes out of America and into Twitter) and the SPRING EQUINOX =

The Spring Equinox 2019 in the Northern Hemisphere will be at 16:58 ( 4:58 PM ) on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 *

SPEAKER

DAVID HUGHES

TOPIC

Metaphorically Speaking: Powerful metaphors for Lean Systems Thinking

DESCRIPTION "Flow" is among the most powerful Lean metaphors and, yet, many practitioners are content with superficial understanding. Cognitive studies confirm that figurative language is one of the most common expressions of creative behavior in everyday life. The conscious use of metaphor is enshrined in the Kanban Method, eXtreme Programming, Lean Manufacturing, and other systems engineering patterns.

Indeed, "fluid intelligence" is a deliciously apt metaphor that describes this area of interest in psychology. The learning objective of this talk is to enhance your appreciation of the power of metaphor in the service of Lean and Systems Thinking through fun, thought-provoking examples.

-======================================-

*  Finally, a 3rd Tuesday in the Spring of 2019 that is NOT the Day after some Monday Holiday . . .

So anyone who loves St Patricks Day, let me know if you are still recovering from the Party on Saturday.  Now I know we might be conflicting with some Pagans celebrating the First Day of Spring, but I will see if I can let Cerner let us use their Parking Garage as a Stonehenge Astrolabe for sighting the stars. If not, we'll go down to Stargazers Road outside of Downingtown and dance naked there.

Oops.  Sorry St Patrick revelers.  It seems that using St Patricks Day as an excuse to dance naked does not cut it in pagan society or any other open source / open minded group in the 5 county region.
